CAA is proud to share the second prize winner of our Class of 2018 Senior Survey scholarship contest. Aniyah Sloan won the $1,500 prize, which she plans to use toward her first year of college. Aniyah will attend Prairie View A&M University to pursue a degree in nursing. Ultimately, she wants to become a Nurse Practitioner, which she tells us has been her goal ever since she was little. She even worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant outside of school to gain experience in the field. Aniyah is an impressive student who has worked very hard to achieve her goals.

Aniyah let CAA know that she is eager to get started at Prairie View A&M. This college is one of the eight Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the state of Texas. She has already attended orientation and tells us that she plans to live in the dorms and intends to rush a sorority her freshman year. Aniyah told us that Prairie View A&M was the right school for her because of their nursing program.

In high school, Aniyah was involved in several school activities. She ran track and competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and in a relay. Aniyah was an athletic trainer for both the football and basketball teams, and she was also a cheerleader and dancer for her high school. When asked if she would change something about her high school experience, she explained that she would have been more social and met more people. Aniyah tells us she would encourage current high school students to not “procrastinate, ask for help, and make sure you find something that fits you” in regards to the college planning process.

Aniyah has been a client of College Admissions Assistance since January 2017, giving her half of her junior year and all of her senior year to work with our program. She shared that CAA helped her to study better for her SAT. At first she procrastinated, but she says CAA was able to help her make a schedule to study. She also took our Career Assessment, and she says it was a tool she used to help her confirm her career goal.

Aniyah will be the first in her family to attend college. She tells us that one point of pride for her is that she graduated high school with honors. We also believe that is quite an accomplishment! CAA wishes Aniyah the best of luck as she pursues her college education and her career goal.
