College Admissions Assistance is proud to announce our next winner from our scholarship contest for the 2020 senior class. Our Second Prizewinner is Jamal Rayford and he will receive a $250 scholarship. Jamal is from Louisiana and will be attending Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He plans to major in Computer Science and minor in business. On his visit to the college he liked how much it felt like a family atmosphere.

In his spare time, Jamal enjoys posting on his YouTube channel. He enjoys editing videos and sharing what is on his mind. His goal is to make people laugh each time he posts a video.

In high school he was part of a group that helped freshmen students adjust to high school life. He would encourage them to have a positive mindset as they approached the experience. He was also involved in a group called Best Buddies where he volunteered to help those with disabilities. Jamal also enjoyed his time in 4H because he was able to work with animals. Lately, his part-time job at Walmart has taken his time outside of class.

Jamal told us, “CAA has helped me in many different ways, but the best thing I got from CAA was how to talk to colleges.” Just like many of our students, Jamal needed assistance with applying and knowing what to do as he approached attending college. He also enjoyed the assessment about career matching. Though he knew he wanted to do something with Computer Science, it helped him to discover career options in that field.

Jamal is the youngest of four siblings and will be the first of them to attend college. He wants to do so to be successful and help to support his mother. He describes himself as goofy, loving, honest, and compassionate. We encourage Jamal to keep focused in his next steps and have all the success in the world. Way to go Jamal!
