Charlene Kimayong is CAA’s $2,500 Grand Prize Scholarship winner for 2019 as part of our senior scholarship survey. The annual survey of our seniors asks them about their experience with the service. Charlene said, “CAA helped me when I was struggling with my studies and I am very thankful for everything that they have done for me.” Charlene took advantage of using our service getting help with her career options, college options, and financial aid matters. She also credits CAA for helping with college essays, particularly our essay editors who helped refine her personal statement with several edits.
Charlene will attend Palm Beach State College in the fall. She plans to major in nursing, earn her degree, and move on to Florida Atlantic for her bachelor’s in nursing. She chose this school because of her positive college visit, the proximity to her home, and that they had her major. Charlene is excited about starting at Palm Beach State in the fall because it is a chance to meet new people. She plans to live at home her first year and get a part-time job to help with expenses.
She would advise younger students to study hard throughout high school as they prepare for college. For her, high school was an important time to be involved in lots of clubs. She was part of AVID, choir, and the drama club. She especially enjoyed her history classes. In her spare time she also enjoys reading and playing sports like tennis.
Charlene and her family came to the United States a few years ago from the Philippines. Now she is starting her college career off on the right foot. We wish her all the best as she pursues her educational goals.
