College Admissions Assistance is proud to announce Selena Sisneroz as our Jerome Evans Memorial Scholarship winner for 2017. CAA awards $1,500 to the best essay entered by one of our graduating seniors in our annual scholarship contest. This year, CAA asked participants to write a short essay about their favorite quote, how it relates to them, and why it is their favorite. Selena wrote a moving story about her grandfather and their favorite song, “You Are My Sunshine.” She did a wonderful job of painting a picture with her story and relating it to the words of the song.

This scholarship was named in honor of Jerome Evans, a former College Admissions Assistance team member. Jerome was killed in a car accident after enrolling students at a workshop. CAA named this scholarship after Jerome because of his love for students and his belief in the power of a college education. In addition to writing the best essay this year, Selena Sisneroz is a great example of a successful CAA student.
Selena is attending UC Berkeley this fall and is very excited about the opportunities! She is not quite sure on her major yet, but has a few options as she begins her college career. Selena plans to be on the cheerleading squad and cheer at the Cal games. She is excited about going to college because it is a chance, “to meet a whole new group of people with same mind-set.” College will be a chance for her be more independent and take on new challenges.
CAA was proud to assist Selena through her efforts choosing a college and all of the steps involved. The financial aid help was the most beneficial to her. We were able to assist her with the FAFSA and with her award letters. This helped her to feel better prepared and supported through that part of the process.
Selena was a great college applicant because of her hard work throughout high school. Her extracurricular activities were incredible and helped her to stand out. She was captain of her cheerleading squad, part of the National Honor Society, co-manager for the Special Olympics soccer/track & field, as well as part of the Virtual Enterprise Academy!
The most moving activity she shared was that she was a co-founder of a special needs prom. There was a dinner, parade and a dance for this group of students. This is one of the many instances that shows Selena’s strong motivation to make a difference. We really are proud to have Selena as a member of CAA since she displays so much heart in all she does! Best of luck to Selena in her first year of college!
